Close friends and family will tell you that Emma has been asking for a baby brother (to be specific) for the past few months. She would tell us that we needed to go pick up Baby Drake, so we could give him a blanket and kiss him. I told her that it was not so simple, and that she could start praying and asking God to put a baby in my tummy if/when He thought the time was right.
Apparently Emma's prayers were heard and answered because on August 20th, I took a pregnancy test, and it was positive: 2 lines!!! To surprise Stephen, I had her hand him the test and tell him that this stick meant that he was a good daddy...haha! At that time, we were not telling Emma. Having miscarried before, we were/are hesitant to make any big announcements.
On September 5th, we went to the doctor's office for the first ultrasound. Everything looked great. We got pictures of our peanut and saw a precious little heartbeat, beating at 126 bpm. According to the old wives' tale, Emma could possibly be getting the little brother she has been asking for. Stephen and I decided we felt comfortable enough to tell Emma that night.
Later that evening, we showed Emma a picture of the ultrasound and told her that we had a surprise. The surprise was a baby in Mommy's tummy. She said, "ok," and then responded by telling us she had a surprise for us. She went and got one of her princess figurines, and yelled, "SURPRISE!!!" It was so cute because it was no big deal to her, and she wanted to give Mommy and Daddy a gift too. She is, however, excited and will tell you that their is a baby in Mommy's tummy and it is a BOY!!!
Oh dear...
